My name is Elizabeth but I prefer “Beth”. I am from a suburb south of Kansas City called Overland Park.
What drew me to doctoral studies is now that my husband of 34 years and I have raised our children to the best of our abilities, I realized I wasn’t going to reach my goal of becoming full-time faculty in communication until I completed my PhD. I’ve worked in higher education in various capacities, including advising and adjunct teaching, since 1983. I have left higher ed periodically, working in other industries, for instance when my husband and I owned a digital marketing boutique for small to mid-size businesses, but I was not completely fulfilled. I do enjoy blogging and writing, but my calling is definitely researching and teaching, developing the passion for communication in those who are learning what it means to be an effective communicator.
